| Lakenvlei
Forest Lodge nestles amid lush forest vegetation and wetland in the heart of the
Eastern Highlands of the Mpumalanga Province. Mpumalanga features mountains and
a beautiful escarpment area, plunging down into the subtropical Lowveld region.
The Mpumalanga Highlands is well known for its cool summers, frosty winters and,
of course, trout-filled streams and dams. Roads and infra-structure are excellent,
making this area eminently accessible to tourists and travellers alike. |

The lodge |
The forest,
hills and dense reed beds surrounding the wetland are home to an enormous variety
of bird species, including the Whiskered Tern and purple heron as well as at least
six duck species and the endangered crowned crane. Bird list at 237 species. (Detailed lists available from reception).
Mammals such as the Cape clawless otter, caracal and serval add to the rare charm of this delightful forest refuge.
The estate offers unsurpassed tranquillity and outstanding natural beauty. The
entire wetland or vlei has been declared a Natural Heritage Site.

Lakenvlei
Forest Lodge is a little over 200 kilometres from Johannesburg. Take the N4 east
past Witbank and Middelburg and turn off to Belfast. In Belfast turn right onto
the R540 to Dullstroom. The entrance to the lodge is on the left hand side of
the road, about 10km from Belfast.From here it is 6km on a dirt road to the Lodge -
please drive slowly on this section. |
